Reducing Driver Risk at Yorkshire Water

DriverMetrics® has released a case study of its work with Yorkshire Water.

Yorkshire Water provides essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire and Humberside region, playing a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing and prosperity.

In November 2018, Yorkshire Water engaged DriverMetrics® to provide its Fleet Driver Risk Index™ assessment for 1500 company car and commercial vehicle drivers. The most scientifically validated driver risk assessment available, the Fleet Driver Risk Index™ accurately identifies the behavioural factors associated with individual driver risk.

Based on Fleet Driver Risk Index™ results, drivers were allocated eLearning, interactive workshops or personal coaching.

Insurance data shows that the Yearly Risk Rate for Yorkshire Water LCV and LGV reduced significantly between 2018 and December 2019. Furthermore, the Annualised Incident Ratio for company cars also saw great reductions between April 2018-March 2019 and April 2019-March 2020.

Improving Driver Safety at Devon & Cornwall Police

DriverMetrics® has released a case study of its work with Devon and Cornwall Police.

Devon and Cornwall Police is the territorial police service responsible for policing the counties of Devon and Cornwall, including the unitary authority areas of Plymouth and Torbay, and the independently administered authority of the Isles of Scilly.

Matt Bowden, Driving Instructor, Learning and Development said: “We find the Police Driver Risk Index™ to be highly effective and it is a key element in our coaching programme. It enables us to form a view of the driver from the outset, helping us to understand why an incident occurred from an objective perspective and to target our coaching conversations”.

Improving Recruitment and Selection at Nottingham City Transport

DriverMetrics® has released a case study of its work with Nottingham City Transport.

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is the biggest transport operator in Nottingham, with 310 buses providing a comprehensive network of services across the city, 7 days a week.

NCT is a multi-award winning bus company and the only operator to be awarded UK Bus Operator of the year five times. As part of their commitment to safe transport, NCT have worked with DriverMetrics® for over a decade, to improve recruitment and selection of new drivers, and develop competencies amongst existing drivers.

NCT have found that the incorporation of the Driver Risk Index™ into their recruitment and driver development programmes has given managers more confidence in recruiting new drivers, more choice in terms of intervening with underperforming drivers, and the knowledge that good employees can eliminate mistakes. Overall standards have improved, with blameworthy incidents and their associated costs consistently falling.

Enhancing Recruitment & Selection at Turners

DriverMetrics® has released a case study on its fleet risk management work with Turners.

Founded in 1930, Turners has grown to be one of the largest and most successful privately owned Transport companies in the United Kingdom, operating in excess of 1850 vehicles and employing over 3400 people.

In February 2018, Turners began working with DriverMetrics® to enhance their recruitment and selection process, using the Driver Risk Index™ assessment. They also used the assessment alongside video event footage and telematics to monitor driver behaviour and identify additional coaching interventions.

The focus was on a number of sites including Temperature Controlled, Container and Food Grade Tankers along with two key Driver Agency suppliers; all of which include a diverse driver population in terms of language and cultural background.

Stephen Blackmore at Turners, said: “We find that the self-reflection enabled by the Driver Risk Index™ can have a major positive impact on drivers behaviour on the road and even personal and family life. The decision to implement was supported by the results in 2018 of the physical and mental value of this assessment tool for our drivers involved. I believe that DriverMetrics® has added a valuable tool to our Driver Safety Programme within Turners addressing not only brand new drivers to the HGV world, but existing from within and outside the UK”.
