Dr Lisa Dorn Appointed to Global Fleet Champions Standards Committee

DriverMetrics® Research Director, Dr Lisa Dorn has been appointed to the standards committee of Global Fleet Champions, a new, not-for-profit global campaign to prevent crashes and reduce pollution caused by vehicles used for work purposes. It replaces the  existing Brake Professional membership service, overseen by Brake.

Free to join, Global Fleet Champions calls on all organisations that use vehicles for work purposes to prioritise safety and sustainability, through good leadership and by adopting robust policies and procedures to manage driver behaviour, vehicle standards and journey routing.

The campaign is underpinned by five pillars that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Decade of Action for Road Safety and its ‘safe systems’ approach to road safety.

The five pillars are driver behaviour; journey routing and modal choice; vehicle procurement and maintenance; incident analysis and intervention; and community outreach.

Dr Dorn commented, “Most fleet drivers make safe decisions when driving for work but research and fleet-based companies consistently report that a relatively small percentage of commercial drivers make up a significant percentage of the overall fleet crash risk. Fleet safety is a growing global problem and it is for this reason that I’m delighted to join the committee to help fleet companies develop safe management practices and behaviour-based safety interventions.”

Richard Hill, Managing Director at DriverMetrics said, “We are fully supportive of Global Fleet Champions and will encourage our international client base to participate. DriverMetrics pioneered the behavioural approach to fleet safety, and we are delighted to see this critical factor included as one its five pillars .”
