James set up Balfour Beatty’s award winning driver safety programme three years ago and in this interview he shares his experiences and advice for other organisations seeking to establish or improve a driver risk management programme. This includes selecting a driver risk assessment and associated training interventions to change employee driver behaviour; including classroom and simulator based training.

Balfour Beatty have won a prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for  initiatives to reduce road accidents within the organisation. The Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognise achievements and innovations which will improve road safety. Each year the most outstanding examples of international road safety initiatives are given public recognition through the scheme.

The 2010 Awards were officially announced on 7th December at a ceremony at London’s Savoy Hotel hosted by Prince Michael of Kent. He founded the awards 23 years ago to give public recognition to organisations and individuals throughout Britain – and more recently worldwide – who have made a major contribution to improving road safety.

Prince Michael said: “Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services has implemented far-reaching occupational road risk management programmes that all other businesses would do well to follow. It is a tremendous example of what can be achieved in improving the safety of employees and all other road users if organisations at board level have the desire to invest in road safety.”

DriverMetrics® works with Balfour Beatty to implement the Driver Risk Index™ and a driver coaching based training intervention programme, including bespoke simulator scenarios, developed by our team to be tailored to Driver Risk Index results.
