The DriverMetrics assessment interface, showing a question about fatigue on a 7-point response scale
The Driver Risk Index

A predictor of risk, not a recorder of it.

The Driver Risk Index (DRI) is a 20-minute online psychometric assessment, benchmarked against over a million drivers, that produces an individual profile explaining why a driver is more vulnerable to risk.

The Assessment

Deployed in three steps: no vehicle, no time off the road.

01
Answer

A structured set of questions across all four risk factors. 20 minutes, online, accessible anywhere.

02
Score

A standard 7-point scale, benchmarked against the driver’s own population. There are no right or wrong answers.

03
Report

An individual profile is generated instantly, explaining not just what a driver does, but why.

What We Measure

Four linked domains, not a single generic score.

The DRI profiles each driver across four domains, giving a structured, comparable, individual risk picture rather than one number.

Situational Risk

Age, mileage, hours driven, licence and driving history: the factual exposure variables every operator already tracks.

Behavioural Risk

Aggression, driving excitement, hazard monitoring and fatigue susceptibility: the tendencies most strongly linked to violations and crashes.

Coping Factors

Confrontational coping, driving focus, self-evaluation and driving concerns: how a driver responds under pressure, and whether they adapt.

Socially Desirable Responding

Impression management and driver confidence, which flag when other scores are likely being suppressed, so a report is never taken at face value.

What Happens Next

Each profile becomes a coaching conversation, not a training course.

Where further intervention is needed, DriverMetrics offers two routes through partner companies: eLearning modules and individualised one-to-one coaching (in vehicle or by phone). Each report gives a fleet operator something telematics alone cannot: a validated, individual explanation of why a driver is higher risk, and which specific factors a coaching conversation should prioritise.
