DriverMetrics© was established in 2005 as a company wholly owned by Cranfield University, UK to enable Cranfield’s research on the design and development of the Driver Risk Index™ widely available to organisations wishing to improve driver safety using our online assessment, management information system and educational interventions. A range of variants of the Driver Risk Index™ assessment have been developed for different driver groups including fleet, bus and the emergency services.

Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate university and one of the United Kingdom’s leading research institutions. Among Cranfield’s core activities is applied research into improving the safety of road, rail and air transport.
DriverMetrics© is closely aligned to the activities of the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University, led by Reader in Driver Behaviour, Dr Lisa Dorn. The Driving Research Group is unique in its application of scientific research and knowledge to a wide variety of driver behaviour, education and training issues in the design and development of interventions for high-risk road users.
The group has a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning over 22 years in conducting research in the field. It specialises in the assessment and measurement of psychological factors that influence driver behaviour. Particular strengths are the design and development of effective interventions to reduce work related road risk to help fleet-based companies with their driver risk management strategies.
